Youth Programs

Narayever Congregation loves kids! Children are always welcome in our regular sanctuary services with their families. We also have specially designed programs for kids throughout the school year & on the High Holy Days.

At First Narayever we empower our teens to take on leadership roles and assist in engaging our younger children, creating a sense of community. If you are a teen wanting to take on a leadership role click here to fill our an application form.

Parents also take on a dynamic role, participating in the youth committee or actively engaging in children’s programs. Our professional Family and Youth Engagement Coordinator provides leadership to our children from childhood, to Bar/Bat Mitzvah and through their teen years.

The First Narayever Congregation is seeking a Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator.

This position is responsible for the following:

-Coordination of the weekly B’nai Mitzvah class, working in cooperation with the Rabbi

-Training and supervision of the teens who lead our Shabbat morning programs and those who provide babysitting during Shabbat services

-Supervision of the ShinShinim (Israeli emissaries)

-Coordination of the Chalutzim (youth group) programs and annual retreat

-Coordination of youth programs for the High Holy Days

-Nurturing relationships with families, parents and children, in our synagogue

The Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator reports directly to the Rabbi, and works closely with the Youth Chair, Bar-Bat Mitzvah Chair, Celebrations Chair, and High Holy Days Chair to ensure the integration of Family and Youth programs into all aspects of shul life.

The Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator is contracted for 28 hours weekly, although actual hours might vary from week to week depending on workload. This position has the potential for job-sharing between two candidates

Each Shabbat during the school year, beginning at 10:45 am we offer:

Shabbat B’Yachad; a lively service for families with children infant to grade 1; includes singing, games related to the parsha, & learning of prayers. Program is led by teen leaders with a parental involvement at story time.

Netivot: a weekly Shabbat service & program for children grade 2 – 6 led by Narayever teens. The program integrates tefillah (prayer), learning new melodies, & creative exploration of the Torah portion.

Chalutzim Shabbat: a monthly interactive & creative Shabbat experience for our post Bar and Bat Mitzvah teens co- led by our Family and Youth Engagement Coordinator and young Israeli emissaries (ShinShinim).

Babysitting: for children 3 months to 3 years is also available Shabbat mornings 9:30 am – 12:30 pm.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah: During the school year students approaching their Bar/Bat Mitzvah participate in a bi weekly class led by our Rabbi and Youth Coordinator. The BBM class provides opportunities to explore themes relevant to becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah & fosters development of a shul community for our young people.

Chalutzim Youth Group: for kids grade 8 & up. Our two Israeli emissaries bring their energy & creativity to offer interesting programming throughout the year.
